Others Have Said:
A brilliant, beautiful journey into the unknown. — Jay P, Connecticut
Sparrow and Blase have a beautiful way of creating and making space for each participant to explore the work they need to do within themselves. Their trust, honesty, and humility is refreshing in a world full of elevated gurus. I would highly recommend any of the workshops they run, independently or together. — Jeff Enright, New Jersey
I wanted to thank you for these weekends. My life has been changed greatly for the better. I am a better father, husband and, in general, a better person. I have released some painful memories and opened up pathways for more healing.
My wife was feeling scared in seeing the changes in me — even though they were positive. I am different and sometimes the unknown is scary, but now I communicate better and am more honest with how I am feeling. — J. E, New Ipswich, NH
Blase and Sparrow are true masters… their wisdom subtly conveyed but deeply instilled. I came away with a new skill set that is already bearing fruit in my life. — Jeff A, Ontario
… the greatest choice I have ever made at a crossroad in my life.
— A. G, Jersey City, NJ

Most men have been under-fathered, and therefore, by default, over-mothered. Their caretakers and teachers mostly women, they grow up in “mother’s castle,” and although they may have physically left, few have really separated and become full adults. Mother’s shadow follows along and darkens the space between them and other men or is projected onto the women in their lives. Without love, guidance and teaching from fathers and elders, they struggle with how to become, and what it means to be a man.
Without mentors and elders to initiate us into a sacred sense of masculinity and ground us in the spiritual and emotional life of men, we are confused about power. Having no positive, male mode of personal power, we react to the omnipresent feminine by pushing it away — rejecting it in ourselves and demeaning it in women; or passively submitting, trying to be nice men, good boys. Overly meek or overly aggressive, men are often, at their core, lost. They vacillate, dependent, somehow needing to separate; unable to commit, unable to leave.
Your leadership and the Mythic Warrior experience were so important to my life. In many ways I don’t feel like I entered manhood until my experience at MW. — J. B, Burlington, VT
This training is for men ready to find and stand on their own solid ground, see themselves in a masculine mirror, and discover a sacred sense of the self outside mother’s and women’s world. It’s for men willing to move beyond adolescence, to find their power through seeing their lives as a quest for authenticity and vision.
Meeting one weekend a month for 8 months, beginning November 11-13, 2016, the group will enact a modern-day Hero’s Journey. Employing archetypal psychology, ritual, initiatory activities, and powerful group processes, the Mythic Warrior is the deepest and most thorough dive into the male psyche one will find today. We begin by identifying the parent-child conflicts still alive in us, separating ourselves from adolescence, reaction, and dependency. We then enter the realms of the Unknown, to explore our gold and Shadow, face our monsters, and find our allies. We enact rituals that access the heroic and integrate what’s been lost, creating self-trust and a nurturing, healthy masculinity. We’ll discover and embrace a larger story, a bigger “dream” that can support and guide us through life and help heal ourselves, our families, and communities.
Thank you for these amazing, inspiring, heart/soul-filling weekends, for pulling, cajoling, and taunting me with wisdom and vision! I am finding my wings and soaring. Thank you for being there to jump with me. — Chris, Northampton, MA
This framework of the Mythic Warrior Training mirrors the three-part structure of all traditional rites of passage:
The training is being facilitated by Sparrow Hart and Blase Provitola.
Sparrow Hart created the Mythic Warrior Training in 1994 and has led vision quests, workshops, and journeys of the soul across the U.S. for the last 28 years. He is a writer and counselor, and he teaches courses and workshops on the hero’s journey, shamanism, and the path of the warrior. He created and directs the Men’s Wisdom Council at the Rowe Conference Center and has been involved in the men’s movement for over 30 years.
Blase Provitola is the co-founder of Menswork, Inc., a non-profit foundation that teaches conscious manhood behind prison walls. Also on the staff of the Men’s Wisdom Council, he has a private practice, facilitates workshops and groups, and has worked in the areas of addiction/recovery and gender reconciliation for 25 years.
The training will be held at Earthlands Retreat Center in western Massachusetts. Secluded and private, the property and surrounding area contains fields, forests, streams, and waterfalls. Directions and further information will be sent upon enrollment.
The weekends begin on Friday evenings at 8 P.M., concluding early Sunday afternoons. Participants should bring bedding or sleeping bags and personal toiletries.
(November — December — January )
The end of Summer… Rites of Severance… saying goodbye to childhood. We cut those cords that hold us to a boy’s view of the world and give them a decent burial. We discover whatever ways we are still imprisoned by mother’s (father’s… culture’s) view of us and how those stories and wounds express themselves in our relationships and lives. Through psychodrama, fierce truth-telling, rituals of release, and other processes, we’ll cut those cords, severing from the old story and any sense of ourselves as victim of that story. Using mythological guidance, we’ll meet the Unknown in all its Fear and Fascination… and begin our journey.
(February — March — April … )
In winter we enter the deep stillness, the sacred world. We journey within to explore the Unknown or unconscious, the life that sleeps under the ground, the authentic core beneath the surface of things. Venturing to the underworld, we face dragons to bring back treasures found in the dark. Utilizing shamanic journeys, mask-making, transformational breathwork, dreams, Dances with Death, council, and a host of provocative rituals we meet the wise ones who live within — our allies and guides. and discover our “Dream,” our vision, our gift to give to “our people.” Embracing our lost self and our connection to the mature male archetypes of Warrior, Lover, Magician, and King, we’ll discover and claim our “Dream,” our vision, our gift to give to “our people.”
(April — May )
The Return… In Spring life re-emerges from the womb into the world. It’s a time of resurrection and rebirth. In the company of our brothers we create our Council of Allies; inhabit our “Purpose Circle,” and usher ourselves into manhood. We encounter the feminine — in ourselves and in the world — grounded in a strong, loving, and sacred masculinity. As men — adults — we claim our place in the great Circle of Life, expressing our passion and purpose as we generate, guide, bless, and celebrate through giving of our gifts to our people.
